“Face it tiger…you just hit the jackpot.” That’s the first thing she said to me. I just couldn’t stop seeing her. There was nothing about her that promised to be easy, but I couldn’t keep away and I didn’t know why. And I’m kind of a scientist when I’m not — you know. Maybe that’s why she fascinated me so much, because I couldn’t explain her. This girl confused me right down to the core —
I always think about my wife. Always.

Brad! I actually was wanting to use those very Marvel comics for Brad & I’s wedding. It’s appropriate because I love Jean Grey & the X-Men and Brad’s gung-ho for Spidey.
I think that’s definitely a collection I should start: Wedding Edition Comics.

Mock cover for Spider’s Kiss (Web of Lies), by Stanley M. Lieber, showing MJ lounging on a chaise with a spider perched on her hand. “If you’re lookng for trouble — you’ve just hit the jackpot.”
By Tony Fleecs. More comics/pulp mashups at his gallery.

So much love for this Adrian Alphona pic of MJ.
Anyone who hasn’t read Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane needs to. Peter and MJ just have the most awkward, sweetest romance that I have ever read about and I love it. It’s kind of soap operaish, but it’s really sweet and the emotions feel very natural.

Spider-Man’s Tangled Web #21, story and pencils by Darwyn Cooke.
J. Jonah Jameson: the worst boss ever, except when he pulls things like flying your wife home from where she’s been stranded in Philadelphia so you can spend Christmas together.
Love the nod to MJ’s classic “you just hit the jackpot” entrance.
MJ: (off panel) Merry Christmas, Petey!
PETER: Huh?! Who—? You!!! Mary Jane!
MJ: Oho! The man remembers my name!
PETER: Could I ever forget? So tell me, little lady, what’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?
MJ: (holding mistletoe over their heads as she pulls him into a kiss) What comes naturally, of course!
PETER: MJ—!!Marvel Team-Up vol I #79, Chris Claremont and John Byrne.
Second time around, MJ does get her kiss under the mistletoe, ironically when she and Peter are well on their way to the first breakup. Hence Peter’s moment of tactlessness. (“Little lady,” meanwhile, is explained by it being the seventies. Sigh.)
We also see here another constant of the Spider-Verse Christmas story, namely Jonah, uh, getting into the holiday spirit. (Although we will see later that sometimes he is actually generous!)
John Byrne draws a lovely MJ!

Women of Marvel!!!
OMG you guys let’s totally hang out in our panties! Then we can have pillow fights and practice kissing!
Also: Rogue, denim panties? I’m trying to think of something more uncomfortable and it isn’t easy.
Can’t decide if this is worse than that “women of Marvel are topless but all wearing jeans and heels” pic. (“Sorry ladies, you can only have shirts or pants. CHOOSE WISELY.”)
And is anyone else weirded out when artists draw Black Cat, Mary Jane, etc. wearing a picture of their boyfriend’s face? Especially when it’s supposed to be “sexy”? IDK.
You think that’s awkward, in the latest Spidey issue MJ’s depicted wearing one of those “heart-shaped spider-symbol” t-shirts … in a trendy New York nightclub. Siiiiigh.
Yeahhhhhh. It’s even worse when they’re drawn wearing the Spidey symbol and they’re not even dating anymore? “Yeah I’m just wearing this heart-shaped symbol of my ex-boyfriend’s face, that’s totally what a human being would do.”
oh god Carlie’s spidey tattoo just got so much worse
